Demagnetizing & Testing

Demagnetizers remove unwanted magnetism from workpieces and tools. Unwanted magnetism can remain in parts that have been exposed to a magnetic field, either intentionally or accidentally. In practice, these are mostly tools, vices and smaller workpieces, but also large tool plates. The tougher and harder a material is, the more susceptible it is to retaining residual magnetism due to its dense surface structure. In magnetized workpieces as well as in permanent magnets, the molecules of the material are aligned in one direction. Demagnetization means that this alignment is eliminated. This is achieved by exposing the workpiece to a decreasing alternating magnetic field. In practice, this is achieved by the following devices.
